The Accidental Entrepreneur Who Is Mad About Motors
Ben has become a successful businessman since leaving the Marines by investing in property and his property portfolio of houses and apartments is now worth an impressive £4 million.
He has built this mini empire by using the money he was given as compensation for the horrific injuries he sustained from standing on an IED in Afghanistan.
He had taken a huge risk and with no property knowledge some people considered him foolish but he was of the belief he would rather take the risk and secure his future as £300k over the next 30 years wasn't going to go very far.
As Ben says, “After being injured in Afghanistan 2008 I woke up in intensive care back in the UK. When I woke I realised instantly that the career I had worked so hard to start was over. Job, wages, comrades. All gone.
I knew soon I'd be getting a medical discharge and would be receiving around £300k in compensation.
My first thought was I have to buy a car. 1. So I could get from A-B and 2. For my independence.
However my dad wisely told me to invest in property straightaway whilst I was on the long road to recovery. I bought my first place. It so happened to be a 25 bedroom place. An absolute mess and I had to bite my tongue as I thought it was the wrong move. However after a year or so we developed the property making a profit of over £500k. I was buzzing but I quickly realised I wasn't obsessed with working on property but I was obsessed with the rewards.”
Another reason for wanting it to work was so he could follow his petrol head dream and buy stunning cars. And buy then he did. Again the accidental entrepreneur in him came to the forth and every car he buys he makes sure is top spec so he can sell it on at a profit.
Ben continues, “I bought my first car, an Audi Q7 for me and my family. And I still had money to re-invest. So I did. Doing this time and time again which along with a bit of luck has put me in a position to be able to live the life I never expected which is awesome. My passions in life are cars of which there have been many, motivating people, raising money and awareness and I'm able to do all these things. Overall I've become successful in what I do because I believe in myself and always give it 110%! Always!
Setbacks are common- it's how you react to them that counts! Seven years ago I lost my arm and leg. Seven years later I'm now a self-made multimillionaire property developer/ motivational speaker and charity fundraiser! Oh and petrol head.”
